What a way to start the new year. This sweet baby was born before Christmas and was I believe 4 weeks old when I saw him. But… he was born 7 weeks early so he was still as sleepy as a 10 day old. He was just perfect. He had no extended hospital stay or NICU experience. What a little fighter he is. He was just perfect for his session. And so unbelievably cute.

It is that time again… we are hustling around getting everything ready for the big man in red’s arrival. It is always a busy day but today I took the morning to sit in my PJ’s. Watch the kids play and watch a little tv while doing well… nothing. It was much needed in preparation for the rest of the day. As I type this there are three overly excited children getting their showers taken care of. All year they look forward to this day. The excitement builds for them daily. They can’t wait to go to sleep yet they are so excited they can’t go to sleep. As a child it is the end all, be all of amazing days. I remember it so well. I remember lying in bed hoping that the night would go super fast so I could see my loot. I remember my parents stumbling down the stairs after we drug them out of bed at an insanely early hour. I remember their faces as they watched us inspect each gift. I mean let’s face it Christmas morning ranks right up there with every child’s most anticipated day. And while all year Scott and I work at instilling in our children how blessed they are so that they appreciate everything they have. A nice house, food on the table, good educations, two parents that love them, siblings and most any toy they want to me this day is about them. It’s about the magic of not knowing what will be left under the tree for them. It’s about going to the end of town or to every store on the Internet to find their most obscure requests. As a parent it is almost as fun to watch them at that same insane hour on Christmas morning as they burst with joy over what Santa has brought them. I feel lucky to have three that still believe in the magic, still act giddy with anticipation over what is going to be left for them. Three kids ages 10, 8 and 5 that will try and go to sleep as fast as possible and will run down the stairs wide awake at 7 am to see what awaits them. Then once the toys have been gone through and carefully inspected we will gather everyone up and load the van up to go and visit our families. We are lucky that everyone lives very close so we split our afternoon and evening with both sides of the family. That is our Christmas in a nutshell. Whatever your traditions are I hope that your day is full of magic and love. Being thankful for all that you have and all you are blessed with. Merry Christmas to you all!

Below are some photos I took for our card this year. Every year we all dress up and do a big family session. This year I did them myself. Next year… I will hire someone. I am thrilled with how the individual ones turned out though. They are already gracing my walls as a large display in our house.

Look at this adorable family. I just loved them. Three beautiful boys! I think the oldest is 4 and with a 4 year old and a 2 year old sibling shots can be well… interesting. But… This sweet big brother was so patient and so amazing with his littlest brother. I so loved watching him with him. And since he was so patient we could persuade the youngest to get involved. What resulted was probably my favorite sibling shot… EVER! I just adore it. I wish I had one like this of my three. Which makes me sad but being able to give this to another family makes me happy so it helps ease that little bit of sadness. And who doesn’t love a baby smile?

After two adorable girls this family was graced with a sweet baby boy. What a little gem he is. So cute. And big sisters are so proud of him. Miss E the oldest was especially helpful and patient with him. So sweet. You were born into a pretty awesome family little man.

Little Miss H came to see me last week and what a beautiful, amazing little subject she was. Her session was filled with magic and love. Which is what newborns always remind us of. The innocence of a new life surrounded by love that is indescribable. I cherish these sessions where the parents seem to pull me into that circle of love. I walked the rest of my day (plus a couple more) with a spring in my step after meeting this amazing family.

I don’t think I have ever seen a newborn smile like this little angel. She did this over and over
whenever I would talk to her. It was amazing.

Little (or shall I say big) Miss H came to see me a recently. I just adore this little family. All three are just beautiful. It is so easy to photograph beautiful people. Miss H slept like a charm and I think she is has one of the prettiest little faces I have ever seen. And the last shot of the family… yep that is definitely a new favorite. Might be going in my studio soon.

I have so enjoyed Lylah grow. I started photographing her as a newborn and over the past year she has grown a special place in my heart. She is just such a sweet little old soul. Happy Birthday big girl.
